ReleasesEvery version, newest first
What's new in Horizon
Each release lists what it adds and fixes, then its full notes and its downloads. Alpha builds come out many times a day as changes land and can break; about once a day the tested ones become Stable, what the launcher installs unless you pick Alpha in its Settings. The launcher has its own releases.
0.2.0Alpha
Horizon is numbered from now on: this is Horizon 0.2.0, the release after 2026.10.23. Releases used to be named after the day they came out; from now on they count up from 0.2.0, and the launcher's too. The launcher installs it by itself once it has updated itself. A server installed with install.sh that still says it is up to date takes it with horizon-server update --version v0.2.0.
Rebuilt from the latest main.
This is an alpha build: launchers on the Alpha channel (Settings, Updates) install it now; Stable gets it in the next daily update if it holds up.
Install or update it from the Horizon launcher: it installs new versions by itself. New here? Get the launcher at https://playhorizon.dev. You need your own copy of Minecraft: Java Edition.

2026.10.14.1StableControllers, copy and paste, crash reports, Nether portals, 30 fixes
6 new features, 19 fixes, 4 known issues
- Controllers (first part): play with an Xbox or PlayStation pad on Bedrock's layout: move, look, jump, attack, use, hotbar, inventory, sneak and sprint. Menus with the pad come next. Settings in
horizon-controller.txt. - Copy and paste (Ctrl/Cmd + C, X, V, A) in chat, signs, books, the anvil, search boxes, world and server fields.
- F3 key combinations as in 26.3: chunk borders (F3+G), hitboxes (F3+B), copy location (F3+C) and block or entity data (F3+I), reload chunks (F3+A), spectator (F3+N), pause without the menu (F3+Esc) and the others. Holding F3+C crashes on purpose after a countdown.
- Logs and crash reports:
logs/latest.loglike vanilla, and a crash report with your system details when the game crashes. The launcher shows a notice with buttons to open, copy or report it on Discord.
Controllers, copy and paste, logs and crash reports, preparing without Python, Nether portals in survival, and about 30 fixes for the bugs you reported.

- Logs and crash reports:
logs/latest.loglike vanilla, and a crash report with your system details when the game crashes. The launcher shows a notice with buttons to open, copy or report it on Discord. - Preparing without Python: resources are now prepared by Horizon's own
horizon-prepare. This fixes preparing on Macs, which failed with the system Python since early October. - Agents turn like a player:
horizon-ctl mouse-moveandturn/look-at --overgo through the real mouse path.
Fixed
- Nether portals in survival: the wait no longer restarts when you shuffle in the portal, trips back find your old portal instead of building new ones, and items and mobs go through.
- Sweet berries can be planted (carrots and potatoes too while hungry or in creative), picked, and grown with bone meal.
- Powder snow works: you sink, freeze and take damage, leather boots let you walk on it, buckets pick it up.
- Cobwebs and sweet berry bushes slow you down, and grown bushes hurt.
- Composters take items by hand, from hoppers and from droppers.
- Furnaces kept resetting their progress when you clicked in the inventory.
- Hurt mobs were too red, especially in the dark: the red tint now follows vanilla's lighting.
- Rain streaks were five times too long; clouds stopped at your render distance instead of following Cloud Distance.
- Texture packs: switching packs now reloads everything, high-resolution packs keep their resolution, and pack language, sound and font files add to vanilla's instead of replacing them.
- Game rules sometimes went back to their old values after leaving a world.
- Taming a wolf gave The Whole Pack and A Complete Catalogue too.
- Feeding animals played the generic eating sound; each animal now makes its own sound, or none, as in vanilla.
- Hand sway: your hands now lag behind when you turn.
- Particles: 29 missing particle types added, hitting a villager shows five angry particles, and many particles moved and coloured differently from vanilla.
- Shift-click didn't work with the left Shift key when toggle-sneak was on, and clicking outside an inventory didn't drop the item you held.
- Fullscreen dropped when you clicked menu buttons on Wayland (Hyprland).
- The world spawn now matches vanilla's for every seed we tested.
- The launcher said "No such file or directory" after updating itself.
- Smaller things: the fire charge's sound pitch, block place sounds played twice, and the hitbox shape of entity models.
Thanks to everyone who reported these on Discord and GitHub.
Before you play
The launcher asks you to prepare resources once more for this version, because Horizon now prepares them itself. Older launchers still work for this version (they use Python one last time); a launcher update with the crash notice and preparing without Python follows shortly.
Known
- Controllers have not been tried with real pads yet: tell us in #horizon-bugs how they feel.
- Arrows, minecarts, boats and falling blocks don't go through Nether portals yet.
- Mobs don't freeze in powder snow and aren't slowed by cobwebs or berry bushes yet.
- The first-person fire overlay looks flat orange.

2026.10.14StableVillager trading, vanilla worldgen order, agent control, many fixes
3 new features, 8 fixes, 3 known issues
- Villager trading, as in vanilla: every profession, level and biome, wandering traders, restocks, reputation and Hero of the Village discounts. Works in single player, on dedicated servers and over LAN.
- Agent control:
horizon-ctl, shipped with the game, lets scripts and AI agents play: read the game's state (position, inventory, what you're looking at, nearby mobs, the open screen, chat), move with pathfinding, look, break, place, attack, use items, click menus and type.horizon-ctl mcpserves the same commands to AI agents over MCP. See the README's "Agent control" section. - A way back from the classic menus: Options → Video Settings → Menu Style.
Villager trading, worlds generated like vanilla's, the Creative inventory fixed, no more footstep loop, and Horizon can now be played by AI agents and scripts.

See the README's "Agent control" section. - A way back from the classic menus: Options → Video Settings → Menu Style.
Fixed
- A constant rustling sound while standing still: the footstep sound played 20 times a second.
- Creative inventory: the Functional Blocks tab was empty (anvils, crafting and smithing tables, looms, beds, signs…), and search now finds exactly what vanilla's does. The scrollbar can be dragged.
- Trees, strongholds and other features differed from vanilla in worlds you explore: chunks are now decorated in vanilla's order.
- The view flipped when looking straight up or down.
- Clouds showed a grid pattern.
- Breaking cracks glowed grey and floated around slabs; mining particles on partial blocks were misplaced.
- The block outline was thinner than vanilla's.
- Mobs and players had flat lighting; items in the inventory and hotbar were lit wrongly; the player preview had seams at some window sizes; text glyphs bled into each other.
Thanks to Cosmic for the camera, cloud, crack, outline and lighting fixes, and for the reports.
Before you play
The launcher asks you to prepare resources once more for this version: the Creative inventory and block outlines come from new data.
Known
- Your world spawn point can differ from vanilla's on some seeds.

- On Hyprland, clicking menu buttons can leave fullscreen and copy/paste doesn't work yet: fixed in the next update.

2026.10.13.1StableOwn menus, graphics settings, faster, many fixes
3 new features, 8 fixes, 2 known issues
- Horizon's own menus: a new title screen, world list, options and pause menu in the launcher's style, over a live frozen landscape. The vanilla look is still available: Options → Interface → Menu style → Classic.
- Graphics settings, Simple and Advanced: presets (Performance, Balanced, Quality, Ultra), or every rendering, quality, display and performance setting, each with a short description and its cost, plus a performance overlay.
- Much faster rendering: for example, at render distance 8 over a village, 363 → 2,409 FPS on an RTX 4080. Render distance 32 still stutters in places.
Horizon's own menus, Simple and Advanced graphics settings, much faster rendering, and fixes for Linux sound, Windows, villages and preparing resources.

Fixed
- No sound on Linux.
- Linux builds now run on ordinary distros (Arch, Ubuntu, …), not just the machine they were built on.
- Windows asked for a missing DLL: the launcher no longer needs the Visual C++ runtime.
- Memory growing near villages: mobs were duplicated when chunks reloaded.
- The frame rate dropping and staying low in villages.
- Preparing resources failed on Linux with "Missing … java-objc-bridge" (#41). Mojang's republished 26.3 version file is accepted too.
- The hand and held item looked wrong at high FOV.
- Missing swing animations in Creative and Survival.
Known
- Sprint-jumping has been reported as broken, but we couldn't reproduce it. If it happens to you, describe it in #horizon-bugs on Discord.
- Online-mode servers aren't supported; skins served over https show the default skin unless already cached.
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. You need your own copy of Minecraft: Java Edition 26.3.
Install and update Horizon with the Horizon launcher. If you already have it, it picks this version up by itself. Website: https://playhorizon.dev

2026.10.13Stable100% of harnessed vanilla parity
7 new features
- Dedicated server:
horizon-client --dedicated --noguiruns a server vanilla clients can join (offline mode), with vanilla's server.properties, status ping, chat, recipes, advancements and command tree. LAN discovery matches vanilla. - Worlds from 1.8 onwards open and are upgraded as vanilla does, superflat worlds included, along with old options.txt and creative hotbars.
- Mob AI matches vanilla tick by tick in 92 scenarios: villager breeding and gossip, the warden and the sculk shrieker summoning it, ghastlings, copper golems sorting chests.
- Spawned mobs' gear and enchantments match vanilla.
Horizon is a Rust reimplementation of Minecraft Java Edition 26.3, checked against vanilla by differential harnesses.
Vanilla parity: 100% of what the harnesses compare. Every subsystem in the README's table now matches vanilla in all 281 harnesses. Parity is declared complete only after a from-scratch audit on Linux and macOS and launch checks on these packaged builds, which come next.

- Screens: the resource pack screen, the open chat (input, history, command suggestions), the recipe book (drawing, search, ingredient placement), the loom's banner preview, End gateway beams, and player-list heads drawn from players' skins.
- Render distance 2 now loads.
- macOS gives vanilla's results in every harness.
Known differences
Online-mode servers aren't supported; skins served over https show the default skin unless already cached; pack icons show the unknown-pack texture in game; the creative hotbar keys (C/X) aren't wired up; item tooltips lack attribute lines.
See PLAY.txt in each archive to prepare the game's resources from your own copy of Minecraft.

2026.10.12Stable88% vanilla parity
8 new features, 1 known issue
- Mob AI matches vanilla, tick by tick in 72 scenarios, with villagers on a port of vanilla's brain.
- New mobs: the breeze and wind charges, the creaking and the creaking heart, the sniffer, the happy ghast and ghastlings, llamas and trader llamas, and the copper golem; the warden's model, animations and emissive layers.
- Raids and pillager patrols.
- Dispensers, crafters, the loom and the recipe book; containers spill their items when their block is replaced.
Horizon is a Rust rewrite of Minecraft: Java Edition 26.3, checked against the game itself. Java parity: 88% (270 differential harnesses pass; see the README's Project status).
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. These builds contain no Minecraft code, assets or data: you need your own copy of Minecraft: Java Edition 26.3, and the first start prepares the resources from it.

Each folder holds the game, the resource preparation tool and a PLAY.txt with the steps: Python 3.10+, JDK 25, your launcher's 26.3 install and the 26.3 server jar you download yourself, then python3 tools/prepare_native_client.py --prepare --server-jar PATH once, then run horizon-client from the folder. The macOS build is not notarized: right-click > Open the first time.

- Every command runs as vanilla, including /item modify, /spectate, /waypoint, /dialog and /place.
- Scoreboards and teams in gameplay, the player list, subtitles, every HUD overlay, block entity animations, and End portals and gateways with vanilla's shader.
- Worlds from 1.17 onwards are upgraded as vanilla does.
- Builds for Linux, macOS and Windows.
Known gaps
The warden's brain and the sculk shrieker summoning it, villager breeding and gossip, spawned mob gear enchantments, the resource pack screen, a dedicated server mode, and worlds older than 1.17.
Known issues
- With the render distance at 2 chunks, a world stays on "Loading terrain…". Use a render distance of 3 or more (Options > Video, or
--render-distance 12).

Updates no longer ask you to prepare again. If you already have the launcher, it updates itself.
Fixed
- A new Horizon version reuses the resources you already prepared when it targets the same Minecraft version and nothing that shapes those files changed. Versions that 0.1.3 installed without preparing are caught up when the launcher starts.
- After an install, the CLI and MCP say when the version is ready to play instead of asking you to prepare it.
